DELEGATION ITINERARY
Below is the itinerary that the bishops’
delegation will be following during their trip to the border to study
the plight of undocumented minors and human trafficking victims.
Tucson, AZ
Monday, October
23
The bishops will travel by bus from
Tucson to Magdalena to visit the remains of Fr. Eusebio Kino, a 17th
century missionary and explorer and the chapel of St. Francis
Xavier. They will then travel on to Altar, Mexico to visit the
CCAMYN Migrant Center to learn about the services it provides to
migrants and especially unaccompanied minors. They will return to
Tucson in the evening, stopping at the road to Sasabe where migrants
begin the last leg of their journey to the North. Members of the
press are invited to join the delegation for this part of their trip.

Tuesday,
October 24
The delegation will travel to
Nogales to take a tour of the U.S. Border Patrol's facilities and
holding cells. The purpose of this meeting is to learn how
unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking are apprehended
and processed within the United States. The bishops will then
travel back to Tucson to catch their flights to Houston, TX, where
the second leg of their border trip will be.
Houston, TX
Wednesday,
October 25
The bishops will begin with a visit
to the United States Attorney's Office -- Southern District of Texas
to look at the relationship between law enforcement and faith-based
agencies providing services to human trafficking victims in the
southern district of Texas. The discussion will include a
background on identification, case assessment and victim support
services through the U.S. Attorney's office.
Later, they will visit the US Dept.
of Homeland Security, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to
analyze the relationship between ICE personnel and faith-based
service providers.
That afternoon the delegation will
attend a luncheon at St. Michael's Home for Children in order to
further understand the range of housing and social services provided
to unaccompanied non-citizen children.
They will then travel to the
Chancery (still not confirmed) where a commendation ceremony will be
held at (time unknown). The USCCB will present Archbishop DiNardo
with a commendation for the work Catholic Charities of
Galveston-Houston has done with unaccompanied minors and human
trafficking victims at the St. Michael's Home for Children and the
St. Jerome Emiliani's Home for Children. All members of the press
are invited to attend this commendation ceremony. For more

The delegation's last visit of the
day will be at the St. Jerome Emiliani's Home for Children to
further learn about the range of housing and social services
provided to unaccompanied non-citizen children there.
Thursday,
October 26
The delegation will spend the
morning at Catholic Charities of Galveston-Houston meeting with
Catholic and faith-based service providers, the Houston Area
Trafficking Coalition and Private Practitioners and Catholic
Charities staff and residents to further their discussions on issues
relating to unaccompanied minors and human trafficking victims.
In the afternoon the bishops will
leave for El Paso, TX to complete the final leg of the trip.
El Paso, TX
Friday, October
27
The bishops will begin their El
Paso leg of the trip by visiting the Southwest Key Child Detention
facility to learn about the shelter-type setting where many children
are housed and the services that are available to them.
In the afternoon, the bishops will
partake in a 5 hour border tour with the U.S. Border Patrol to look
at how their operations are managed with respect to unaccompanied
minors. They will also be joined by and meeting with Immigration
Judge Robert Hough and an official from the Mexican Government, Sr.
Max Otto.
Saturday,
October 28
he delegation will first visit with
the Lutheran Social Services of the South foster care program to
learn about the care setting which is considered to be the least-restrictive
setting within the system of care for children in custody.
In the afternoon the bishops will
be crossing the border to Ciudad Juarez, Chih., Mexico to visit
various migrant shelters including the DIF Shelter (run by the
Mexican Govt.), the YMCA Casa Inca, and Casa del Migrante to learn
about their operations and services provided to unaccompanied
children and human trafficking victims that are repatriated to
Mexico. All media is invited to meet with the delegation for
questions/interviews before they cross to Cd. Juarez and as they
visit the shelters in that city. For more information see the

29
The USCCB Committee on Migration
Delegation Visit to U.S./Mexico Border Regions is debriefed and
delegation members return home.
